Emergency Works

When something goes wrong on site, you need a safe, fast response. Bingley Demolition carries out emergency works across Yorkshire and beyond, dealing with unsafe structures, fire and storm damage, or fallen debris that needs urgent attention.

What Are Emergency Works?

Emergency works are urgent demolition or enabling jobs carried out to make a site safe after an incident. This can include stabilising buildings, removing dangerous materials, isolating services, or creating safe access for follow-on contractors. Sometimes it’s partial demolition, other times it’s clearance to remove immediate risks.

At Bingley Demolition, we’re set up to respond quickly. Our team assesses the situation, puts a safe system of work in place and acts methodically to secure the site. Even in urgent situations, the work is planned and carried out safely.

What Do Emergency Works Involve?

Depending on the situation, emergency works can include:

Common Challenges and How We Manage Them

Emergency jobs often come with limited access, live services or unstable structures. We plan carefully, bring in the right equipment, and make sure experienced supervisors and banksmen are in place. RAMS are tailored with extra detail when the risks are higher, ensuring work is carried out under control.

With Bingley Demolition, you get a team that responds quickly and works safely to bring the situation under control.

Case Study

Howard Stott - Wrexham

Overview

This project involved an emergency response in a live warehouse environment after a tray containing approximately 50m of 185mm four-core cable (x4) had fallen. Fortunately, no injuries were caused, and power was immediately isolated at the transformer to secure the site. With no strict deadline, the focus was on careful planning and safe execution of the works.

A four-man team carried out the project using two scissor lifts and an electric-powered lifting solution suitable for indoor use. A banksman was assigned to maintain control of all lifting operations and ensure safe working distances were observed. Given the sensitivity of the task, additional preparation was built into the site-specific RAMS to address the unusual risks involved in handling live-service equipment and overhead cables.

The tray and cables were safely counterbalanced and secured, while two operatives in the scissor lift applied slings to take the remaining load. Once stabilised, the cables were systematically cut, lowered, and removed under constant supervision.

Results

The emergency works were completed without incident, with all cables safely removed and the warehouse made secure. The project highlighted the team’s ability to adapt RAMS for sensitive conditions and to deliver a controlled outcome in a potentially hazardous situation.
